Lodi, San Joaquin County
The Lodi Arch, a mission-style gateway topped by a golden bear, has stood at the entrance to downtown since 1907. A few blocks away, Roy Allen sold his first mugs of root beer from a roadside stand in 1919, the start of the A&W chain. The town also lent its name to a 1969 Creedence Clearwater Revival song about a musician stranded there.
